A week ago, I lost a big piece of my heart when my husband died. I’m moving forward thanks to the support of a thousand people around me. This afternoon, while catching up on emails, I read a friend’s blog. She posed this question to her readers- What superpower would you chose?

The following is my answer…

You’d think that since I lost my husband to cancer that I would chose the superpower of healing, but I think that we all already have the strongest of all powers. We are all capable of expressing great love.
I saw this incredible power in many ways over the last year. I saw enormous strength in the medical staff at the cancer center as they cared for us each and every week. Those ladies lifted him up with their love and their devotion to his treatment. They were inspirational every time we walked through that door.

Strangers came to my home to help do spring chores, and neighbors took away trash or cared for animals. Coworkers, and employees, side by side, working in a nonverbal expression of love and compassion, renewed my faith in humanity. Family, friends, and acquaintances reached out and offered anything they could to help us in a difficult time. No one asked for a thing in return.

Since his passing, I have felt compassion and support the likes I have never felt or seen in my lifetime. I’ve received cards, emails and posts on forums from people all over the world. People I know personally and people I’ve only met online have offered cyber love and hugs that all have contributed to give me strength and power….the superpower that I need to go on.

So, I don’t need to wish for a superpower like x-ray vision or invisibility. I’ve seen  the best of powers already in us mere mortals.

Yes, I believe that love is the strongest of powers there is and we all carry that as both a shield and a weapon.

Thank you all for the loving hands of support that have held me up over the last week and the last year.

Perspective

Every now and then, I realize that I am way too full of myself, self absorbed in the struggles of my life, and blinded by the complications of being me. Then I see something like this -   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcBV-cXVWFw  and I’m able to gain some much needed perspective.

I couldn't get Monty Python out of my head....

(spoken)
Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,
And you feel that you've had quite enough...
 (singing)
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving,
And revolving at nine thousand miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the Galaxy we call the Milky Way.
Our Galaxy itself contains 100 billion stars
It's 100,000 light-years side to side,
It bulges in the middle, 16,000 light years thick
But out by us it's just 3,000 light years wide
We're 30,000 light years from galactic central point,
We go round every 200 million years
And our Galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding Universe.
The Universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light you know,
12 million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
Because there's bugger all down here on Earth.
The Galaxy Song

Are we freaks? Are those of us that read, write, and enjoy the tide of emotions and sensations that the sexual element adds to a tale so unusual? I recently discovered that yes, we are, and no, we’re not.

Yes, I still owe a couple of you the next installment of the Dom at the Bar…I’m working on it.

Sexy and Smart?

I like sex and I write erotica. Do those qualities diminish my intellectual capacity?

I ponder this tonight because I received a request to join the Cambridge Who’s Who… for my excellence as a Professional Woman. I get a great deal of corporate junk mail due to holding several professional certifications. Should I send the application in? Let’s see… Here is the information required of the applicatnts filled out as an author of erotica:

Unexpected Lust

Today, I found something sweetly simple to be exceptionally arousing. Not in the kink kind of way, but as a little unexpected treat.

Obsessions

I received a gift yesterday, and in it, have found a new obsession. The hunky UPS man brought me a wonderful box of goodies from Harry and David. The packaging, delicate pink and red hearts, hinted at chocolate treats, and I was not disappointed to find several smaller boxes of truffles, fresh pears, and a few other tempting morsels. Now, I love chocolate as much as the next girl, but my weakness has always been cherries. The smallest box in this assorted gift pack contained something my cherry loving palate had never experienced. Harry and David have simply named these extraordinary temptations Bing Cherry Chocolates- an understatement of profound proportion.

I’ve enjoyed chocolate covered cherries, cherries jubilees, cherry chocolate ice cream, and a sundry of other concoctions made from the modest crimson fruit. By far, these little pieces of paradise are the best cherry creation yet. Rapture.

Maybe if the UPS guy fed them to me, they’d be better.
If he were naked.
Basking the afterglow of some seriously hot sex.

Humm. Seems the cherries have not replaced my true obsession.

Help me out with a scene.
I’m trying to spice up a story and I wonder what you’d do.

My guys watching a lady across the table, she’s driving him mad. He wants her. She’s given off all the clues that she wants him. Hes got the plan to get her alone later that night.

What is he fantasizing about as she sits across from him at a fancy dinner party?

Give me a good fantasy scenario- I’ll pick one, write it, and post it.

Happy Rejection

I received a really good rejection today. It was regarding a contemporary romantic comedy short I wrote over Christmas. The editor was very complimentary and offered constructive feedback along with an invitation to resubmit. That’s about the best rejection I’ve heard of from this particular publisher. So that ms gets added back to the list of current WIPs that need attention and my ego is sufficiently stroked for a day or two.

Writing Goals

Weekly goals--  I’ve made some really good progress this week. My second novel, Overcome by Magic, is almost ready to submit. My goal is to have it subbed out by March. That should happen, no problem.

The “Hot, Hard, and…” series had a small set back this week. If I hit it ‘hard’ by the end of the weekend, I may be able to catch up. The wares and the demons in “Hot, Hard, and Howling” are so much fun. I really want to play with them some more. I’ll post a tad of this one soon. You bondage lovers will like it. Not so sweet as MoV.

Speaking of, “Men of Vice” is still on track. I think I’ve posted a little of Sam and Kendzie. It’s at about 20K. Looking to be 35 or 40K.

My muse is being such a bad boy tonight. He’s dancing around naked- tempting my characters off into naughty places they are not ready to go. What’s a girl to do when her muse is having so much more fun then she is?

Happy days girls and boys. I hit the local Borders books today and what did mine eyes behold? Right there, inside the doors on the second display table… Erotic Romance.
Smut on proud display. Ellora’s Cave, Aphrodisia, and Samhain no longer relegated to the bottom of the romance shelves. In this conservative Bible belt town, who would have guessed?

I only bought a few. I swear.

Something to warm the toes

I promised a little something when I introduced myself. Here’s a little slice of a bigger work that is just the thing for a cold January night.

Kendzie has been out of an abusive marriage for a while and just getting back to herself. Sam is a cop with a very dominate side. They meet and the results are… well, you be the judge.

What a nice new toy.

I’m so new around here I can’t get all the wrapping off. Oh well. Unwrapping is one of my favorite things to do.

After looking around a bit, I see that there is an abundance of you out there that love to read and write about the best part of life- Sex. In my writings, I explore sex, sexuality and the emotions that the act evokes. All erotica is about feelings. The quick nameless encounter in the elevator is still overflowing with intense emotion and sensation. At no other time are we as open, as expressive, as when we fuck.

So I look at that, in all its forms. Celebrate the intangible that is articulated in touch.

I’ll post my feelings about it, ask questions and share my scribbles.

Hope you enjoy.
