A week ago, I lost a big piece of my heart when my husband died. I’m moving forward thanks to the support of a thousand people around me. This afternoon, while catching up on emails, I read a friend’s blog. She posed this question to her readers- What superpower would you chose?
The following is my answer…
You’d think that since I lost my husband to cancer that I would chose the superpower of healing, but I think that we all already have the strongest of all powers. We are all capable of expressing great love.
I saw this incredible power in many ways over the last year. I saw enormous strength in the medical staff at the cancer center as they cared for us each and every week. Those ladies lifted him up with their love and their devotion to his treatment. They were inspirational every time we walked through that door.Strangers came to my home to help do spring chores, and neighbors took away trash or cared for animals. Coworkers, and employees, side by side, working in a nonverbal expression of love and compassion, renewed my faith in humanity. Family, friends, and acquaintances reached out and offered anything they could to help us in a difficult time. No one asked for a thing in return.
Since his passing, I have felt compassion and support the likes I have never felt or seen in my lifetime. I’ve received cards, emails and posts on forums from people all over the world. People I know personally and people I’ve only met online have offered cyber love and hugs that all have contributed to give me strength and power….the superpower that I need to go on.
So, I don’t need to wish for a superpower like x-ray vision or invisibility. I’ve seen the best of powers already in us mere mortals.
Yes, I believe that love is the strongest of powers there is and we all carry that as both a shield and a weapon.

Thank you all for the loving hands of support that have held me up over the last week and the last year.
